From a purely doctrinal and linguistic point of view, the church is those called out by God. The word translated church is a word describing a group of purposefully assembled people. But that is not the answer I wanted to share to today's question. What is the Church? According to the writers of the New … Continue reading What is the Church?

How to Study The Bible Pt 3 – Learning from Narrative
If you have ever been a part of classes I teach, when I teach a narrative passage you are familiar with these questions. They work great in individual study as well.
How to Study the Bible Pt 2: Context
Again, because a few people are asking, I am re-blogging this short series on How to Study the Bible. Have a great day. Learn from God. Keep praying and keep studying.
“Context is key.” I can still hear my instructors and professors in my Bible classes at
Faulkner University saying that over and over and over. They are right, “Context is key!” Anyone can take a single verse or a collection of verses from the Bible and make a point. The point or lesson may or may not be valid or worse even an accurate observation. Critics of the Bible are good at pulling various verses out of context to attempt to disprove the Bible. Those of us who claim to be Christians can also be guilty of pulling verses out of context to prove our arguments.
What follows is an example that I am using to show how someone can misuse the Bible. It is an extreme example of pretexting or eisegesis. (** WARNING ** What you are about to read is incorrect, even if the words are straight…

How to Study the Bible Part 1 – Read

Finding What is Lost
Years ago, my grandfather told me, "You always find things in the last place you look, so if you need to find something look in the last place first." Sometimes that works <sarcasm>. You likely remember the Lost and Found room or closet at school? Maybe there is a table where you assemble for worship … Continue reading Finding What is Lost

Still Taking a Break
I am still letting my mind vacate away from the blog for a few days. I am still here, but just searching for inspiration. I have a couple of blogs planned and will get back to marriage and parenting blogs too. But for now, I am hunting and fishing - - - maybe literally.
