How to Stay Married Pt 4

This fourth installment on this series is short and to the point.  If you want a life-long lasting marriage, you Must Commit to Your Marriage as Permanent!  Jesus’ statement on marriage in Matt 19:9-12 makes marriage sound very permanent,

And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.” The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” But he said to them, “Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.”

Does God want to restrict us and make our lives miserable? No!  He knows real love and fulfillment can only exist in conditions where there is trust and commitment for the long term.  God does want my happiness, but real happiness does not come from what I want to do, but by living the way my Creator knows is best for me. (John 15:10-11).

  1. Yes, very good indeed. As part of that commitment, the Biblical allowances for divorce should not be seen as loopholes to be exploited, but instead as a very last resort.

  2. Love is not a feeling or a fairy tale. Love is not “Till you’ve changed, we grew apart and we just fell out of love do us part” it’s “till DEATH do us part.”

  3. Our relationship with our spouse reflects our relationship with God. It goes hand in hand. If God is first and our spouse second, things are going to go well…not without “minor” problems, but definitely go well. Divorce is just something I do not understand whatsoever. And yes, people have tried to explain it to me…but again, I say, where is God!!!
