Sunday Morning in Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving
This print hangs on the wall in my study. When I look at the print, my eyes focus on the center of the scene where the father walks hand in hand with a young boy. I do not know what Washington Irving had in mind with this part of the scene, but I am reminded that my Father in Heaven longs to walk with me. The Psalmist relates, “. . . I am continually with You, You hold my right hand.” (Ps 73:23). Think about our anatomy. Look at the print. If the Father holds my right hand I am on His left side – closest to His heart. Oh how the Father loves His children!
As I reflect back to the print, I wonder what the father and son in Irving’s scene are discussing. I wonder if the boy is asking questions about church, nature, or life in general. I love the father’s face. He is showing genuine interest in the young man’s inquiry. Peter reminds us that God intently listens to our inquiries and concerns (1 Pet 3:12). Oh, how the Father loves His children!
Again I return Irving’s print. The father is leading his family toward a house of worship. “Fathers . . . bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” (Eph 6:4). God the Father gives us what we need for life and godliness and to be a complete person (2 Pet 1:3, 2 Tim 3:16-17). Oh, how the Father loves His children!
I close thinking of the words of the prophet, “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). Oh, how the Father loves His children!

Driving Thought 
I came across this blog because I was looking up that picture because my husband recently bought one just like it from a thrift shop. I wanted to know it’s worth and came across this blog, I’d say I got much more out of it than I’d have imagined. It was as if you were describing the way my husband and I were feeling when WE looked at. How Great is our God! Praying that God blesses you and your family in a Great and Mighty way!
