Maybe I misunderstand the lyrics or maybe I am biased against the lyricists, but to me one of the most sarcastic songs of this season is “So This is Christmas, War is Over” originally by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. If you pay attention to the underlying tone, they are saying “Who cares if this … Continue reading So This is Christmas?

Since You Brought it Up . . .
Maybe you did not bring it up, but someone did. I hear it every year, so I decided that I will repeat myself on the topic of Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. I am a BIG fan of this time of year. I love the festivities. I love the family gatherings, the gathering of … Continue reading Since You Brought it Up . . .

Planned Preaching Retreat

We came from different congregations, backgrounds, and states. We each brought our calendars, Bibles, computers, tablets, and … Continue reading Planned Preaching Retreat

Nine Church Cripplers
There are certain things that you and I are sometimes guilty of that are harmful to the local church. In reality they are a danger to the Church universal. I am simply going to share this as a list and without comment. Regular Absense Indifference Worldliness Lack of Faithfulness to God Selfishness Neglecting our … Continue reading Nine Church Cripplers

My DOMA Reaction
With all that is going on in Alabama this week with the court ruling Alabama’s marriage act as unconstitutional and same-sex couples lining up to after winning the right to marry, I thought about this post originally from 2012 and reblogged in 2013. My thoughts have not changed.

I stated the following on Facebook this morning: “As we reflect on the state of marriage and what our government now recognizes as marriage, remember that long ago our government forsook a godly definition when divorce and remarriage for reasons other than what Jesus states in Matthew 5:32, Matthew 19:4-12, and Mark 10:3-12.” This goes with what I said a year ago. One valid observation homosexuals and others make is that many “Christians” who speak loudest against homosexual marriage (and many politicians who are using this agenda for political gain) are on their second, third, or even fourth marriage or they are guilty of violating the…

#bealight
For the last half of 2014 the overriding them at Central Church of Christ was #contagiouschurch. The idea is that we are to be contagious in our attitude. Contagious in our praise. That we are to be contagious to the world, infecting the world around us with Christ and Christianity. This year we are refocusing … Continue reading #bealight
