On Monday and Tuesday this week, I met up with seven other ministers (Brendan Chance, Mark Posey, Mike Baker, Dale Jenkins, Daniel Courington, Elisha Freeman, and Trae Durden) in Huntsville, Alabama for one main purpose – sermon planning. We came from different congregations, backgrounds, and states. We each brought our calendars, Bibles, computers, tablets, and note pads and worked on our individual plans for what we would preach in 2016. We spent approximately 6 hours in sermon planning Monday evening and approximately 4 hours more Tuesday morning.

What a great use of time! We helped each other look at special messages, planning long and short series, and planning around holidays.  We shared sermons and plans from years past and are borrowing these ideas from each other.

Don’t think it was all business.  We had great fellowship centered around our common commitment to ministry. We had three meals together and spent a few hours after planning talking about our ministries and great things about the congregations we serve.

Just so you know the plan I am working on, here is the reading schedule that I will be preaching from for Central Church of Christ in Tuscaloosa.  I have in my file a sermon title or idea for 48 of the 52 Sundays, I will still have to write the lessons but having the planned reading and general direction for each week is great.
