What the Devil Has in Mind

This past Sunday, I worshipped with my parents at the church I grew up in. Jeff Stacey presented a great message on the importance of What We Preach. During the message Jeff mentioned the importance of preaching truth so that we are not outwitted by Satan. He referenced 2 Corinthians 2:11, “. . . so that we will not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.” I immediately jotted down a not and referenced 1Peter 5:8-9a, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone o devour. Resist him, firm in your faith . . .”

Scripture reminds us that the devil, Satan, is not one we should ignore. We should be aware of his reality, his methods, that is to say “what the devil has in mind.” With that I want to remind you of just some of the devil’s ways:

The Devil

  • The devil will use all methods at his disposal to reach out to you and to win you over to his way of thinking (Eph 6:11).
  • Satan is patient. He will give you opportunity to sin and leave the offer open for as ling as it takes (Luke 4:13).
  • The devil does not easily get discouraged. He will stick with his plan (Job 1:8-11; 2:2-6)
  • Satan is always on the lookout for a convert / conquest (1 Peter 5:8).

To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Take up the shield of faith along with the whole armor of God and stand strong against the enemy.
