Be Sweet, Love Earnestly

I thought about John as I was reading in 1 Peter. John, was a former elder when we moved here. He was by all accounts a loving gentleman. He was the first to greet you and he always had a smile. He was The Candy Man and all the children loved him, and he loved them. There are candy jars around the building in his honor, now that he has passed. John’s advice to me and to everyone, “Be sweet.”

When the apostle tells us, “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;” (1Pe 1:22-23), I thought of John. John had a sincere love and loved earnestly.

Be Sweet – Love Earnestly

How can I be sweet and love earnestly?

  • No matter how you feel – be courteous.
  • Do not interrupt.
  • Value each other.
  • Share the work load.
  • Spend time together.
  • Work harder for each other than you do for yourself, your career.
  • Accept differences and celebrate them.
  • Express love constantly and consistently in concrete ways.

  1. Thank you Scott. John was a bright spot in your world if you had a down day. He always told you he loved you. And, you knew you were loved.
