Fitness Plan – Spiritually Speaking
I hear a lot about the P90X fitness program, and I have friends who are using it to lose wight and tone up, it seems to be working for most of them, and I should probably follow suit in some way. Recently, discovered another fitness program that came long before the P90X Fitness program. In the 1950’s the Royal Canadian AIr Force had the 5BX Fitness Plan. This plan consisted of Eleven Minutes a Day – Stretching – doing Sit-ups – Back Extensions – Press-ups (Push-ups) – and Running (in place). Not a bad plan.
Thinking about that plan led to the following sermon outline:
1. Stretching My Spirit
Use the Word of God
1 Pt 2:2
Ps 19:7-10
It is by God’s word we can resist sin – Ps 119:11
– Regimen
Daily read God’s Word
Start slow, (NT a chapter a day)
Progress to reading Bible through each year / multiple times a year
Read devotionally, contemplating on what you read.
2 Pet 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”
2. Sit-up Strengthening Your Core
Spend time in Prayer (last Sunday night – Jesus loves prayer)
In prayer there is:
Forgiveness & Peace
Strength & Opportunity
Boldness & Wisdom
Healing
– Regimen
Pray for wisdom as you read / study God’s word
Pray daily for your spiritual needs
Col 4:2 – “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”
3. Back Extensions – Enrich your Spiritual Life
Singing is praise to God (Acts 16:25)
Singing is a type of spiritual sacrifice – Heb 13:15
Comes from the heart – Col 3:16 / Eph 5:19
Responds to God’s goodness.
– Regimen
Make a part of your daily devotional (listen too or sing)
Make melody in your heart – let the song affect you.
4. Push-up – Strengthen the Upper Body
Fellowship
How we receive edification – Eph 4:15-16
Source of comfort – 1 Ths 5:11
Helps fight off sin – Heb 3:12-14
– Regimen
Assemble every opportunity you have.
Take advantage of the local assemblies
Look for other ways to interact with Christians.
5. Run with Patience
Be active in Godly works
Eph 2:8-10
Matt 5:16
Be fruitful – Col 1:10
– Regimen
Talk with the lost
Serve your brethren and the lost
Use your (FAT) Finances, Ability, or Time to help
Try each day to do something that benefits another person.
Conclusion:
1 Tim 4:7-8, “Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”
