Last night, Amy and I watch “One Night with the King” on Netflix. This is a modern telling of the Biblical epic of Haddasah (Esther). The movie took liberties with subplots, some historical background, and with the timeline, but overall remained true to the basis of the Feast of Purim and the characters of Xerxes, Haman, Mordecai, and Esther.
Every time I read or reflect on the events of Esther and the fate of Israel, I focus on Mordecai’s statement in 4:13-14, “”Do not think to yourself that in the king’s palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
I always think, “How will I be of service to God today?” Opportunities will come your way this morning, this afternoon, and this evening to be of service to God. Will you be ready and willing? Will I?
