Are You a Weeble?

When I was about 4 years old Romper Room Toys introduced the world to the World of Weebles. Weebles were fun toys for imaginative play. They were little egg shaped people with cars, planes, boats, and entire world of accessories. But the greatest thing about Weebles was that “Weebles wobble, but they don’t fall down.”

Weebles

  • Knock a Weeble with your finger, he leans back and forth, back and forth until he stands up straight again.
  • Slide a Weeble across the wood floor, she slides, then stops, leans back and forth, back and forth until she stands up straight again.
  • Toss a Weeble across the room, he lands mostly upright, leans back and forth, back and forth until he stands straight up again.
  • Knock a Weeble off the kitchen table or chest-of-drawers, he lands, rocks back and forth, back and forth until he stands up straight again.
  • I know, my brother and I tried all these things and more. We discovered . . .

Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down!

Why do Weebles always stand back up? Partly because of their egg shape, but mostly because of the weight at the bottom of the toy. They have a great foundation that causes them stand up straight again no matter what happens to them. A great foundation!

Jesus said, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)

We can have a great foundation because Christ. We can stand up straight again. A job loss knocks me down – I wobble back and forth, back and forth, until I stand up straight again. An illness slides the rug our from under me –
I wobble back and forth, back and forth, until I stand up straight again. I fail to be who I should be for Christ – I wobble back and forth, back and forth, until I stand up straight again. Storms come, disaster strikes – I wobble back and forth, back and forth, until I stand up straight again.

The Apostle Paul says it this way, “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.” (2 Corinthians 4:8-10). In other words, “I wobble back and forth, back and forth, until I stand up straight again.”

You don’t have to stay down. Be a Weeble!

  1. Wow that’s exactly what I need right now. Thanks for sharing. I am wobbling back and forth with my faith and hope.

    • Tina, I am glad that these words reminded you of reliance on God. He knows our hearts and the intent of them. We all will stumble at times, but know that God is there to help us stand back up.
