Ultimately

New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes recently made headlines during spring training not for his training. Not for anything on field, outfield, infield, but something off field. Maybe better put as on the way to and from field. The headlines revealed that he drove a different car to the field each day, including a $65,000  tricycle.
Contrast that with San Antonio Spurs Kawhi Leonard who drives the 1997 Tahoe he drove in High School (currently valued at $1,152) and clips restaurant coupons.  For the record, Leonard has a $90 million contract.

This contrast brought to my mind Proverbs 6:6-11,
“Go to the ant, O sluggard;
consider her ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief,
 officer, or ruler,
she prepares her bread in summer
and gathers her food in harvest.
How long will you lie there, O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest,
and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want like an armed man.”
As noble as laying back for our physical future is; As right as it is to prepare for our future;  Jesus warns about forgetting God in your plans, Luke 12:16-21
And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘ What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops? ‘ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ” Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”‘ But God said to him, ‘ Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be? ‘ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
Three things I think you need to know
  1. Ultimately our life is not about the things we gather,

  2. Ultimately it is not about our toys.

  3. Ultimately our life is about our service to God – cf. Ecc 12:13
