Always and Forever

No not the song by Heatwave (for the record I did sing this at a wedding in 1987, but that is a story for another day).

I have in mind Paul’s words in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

  • Rejoice always and forever. Our life in Christ is to be a life of joy. Not always an

Camp Bellevue worker in Ecuador praying as the day starts.

elation and giddiness, but a joy that is surpassing a complete understanding. Rejoice that your sins are forgiven. Rejoice that you have an eternal home in heaven. Rejoice that when you live for Christ avoiding the entrapments of sin, you are living free indeed. Rejoice that you are a child of God. Rejoice always.

  • Pray always and forever. In Christ we have access to the Father’s ear. Take time every day – all day – to talk with God. Pray about your dreams. Pray about your struggles. Pray for forgiveness when you fail Him.  Pray for others. Pray for strength to face the day ahead. Pray reaffirming your daily death to self to live for Him. Pray without ceasing.
  • Give thanks always and forever. Start each day, spend each day, and end each day expressing your thanks to God for all He has done and does in your life. Thank Him for the day, for the sun or rain. Thank Him for the people in your life. Thank Him for Christ. Thank Him for the cross. Thank Him for the Church. Thank Him for your daily meal(s). Be like the older gentleman who once told me he got up with pain each day and would thank God he was alive and able to feel that pain. Give thanks in all circumstances.
