Marriage Matters Monday – God’s Design

Now that Spring is here, the weather is warming up (not that this Winter was cold in the South), young men on college and university campuses around the nation are beginning to think about what their girlfriends have been thinking since last July – MARRIAGE!

During the Summer you and and I will attend weddings and hear young people promise to take another person as their spouse, to love and to cherish, to honor and comfort, to keep one another in sickness and in health, for richer and for poorer, for better or for worse. They will promise to forsake all others for the one that they are committing their life, love, and devotion too. They will seal these vows with candles, rice, sand, rings, and more than likely a kiss. Tears will flow as moms and dads see their children growing up right before their eyes.

Marriage. This wonderful union – that is what is it supposed to be. This wonderful union is part of God’s plan for His creation known as man. In the earliest chapters of Genesis we read God’s plan, His design for and of marriage.

1. Companionship – Gen 2:18a, “It is not good that the man should be alone;”
2. Reproduction – (sexual fulfillment) – Gen 1:28, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.”
3. Love – Gen 2:24, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
4. Strength and Support – Gen 2:18b, “I will make him a helper fit for him.”

Maybe that is why God hates putting away – Malachi 2:14-16 – because it subverts His plan for what is best for man.

  1. Good. You might add ‘independence,’ they have their own family now with its increased responsibilities. Have you read Jay Guin’s review of Yeakely’s statistics? He’s doing it now.
