Tempted?!?

Temptation is a fact of life! There, I said it. The statement is true. We each face opportunities to do what is wrong, and many times we have the desire to see it through. Temptation! Even things that are for good purposes can become a snare toward evil. For instance, the desires that God placed within us for man and woman to love each other and to bring children into the world can also lead to premarital and extramarital affairs. The temptation is there to misuse what God created for our good. But all is not lost, we do not have to give in to temptation. God gives us ways to face temptation and walk away unscathed, even stronger by reason of resistance.

1. Be Aware of Temptation. Paul tells us to “take heed” in 1Cor 10:12, “Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.” Temptation overtakes us when we least expect it, so try always to be aware of your surroundings.

2. Pray for Deliverance. Seek God’s help as you face what tempts you. You know what pulls at you the most, ask for God’s help. You do not have to face temptation alone. “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” (Matt 6:13).

3. Know that you Can Overcome. Seeing the victory before hand gives strength to stand. You are strong enough, with God’s help! “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Cor 10:13).

4. Self-Control is Key. Paul says, “But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” (1 Cor 9:27). We must learn self restraint. We must learn to move away from what tempts us.

It is 8:45 a.m. CST breakfast was almost 2 hours ago. Time for chocolate! But just ONE Hershey’s Kiss, not the whole bowl.

  1. Scott that really touches me because I am tempted everyday. And I am sad to say that I do sometimes like all other christians dont always stand up for what is right. Thanks for all you do to make this world a better place.

  2. THank you Scott for your inspiration on temptation. I know we all have it. It just seems that here lately I had an almost unbearable load of it.

    • Meleah,

There is something about living in the the world that pulls at our physical nature. I will pray that you remain sarong for the Lord. Take a stand for right and let those who do not understand see the result of your stand. Looking back on my high school years (a very long time ago) I can remember the struggles, but now some of my classmates who did not stand against temptation are calling on me for support and strength. I think because they can look back and see that my decisions then to stand for right provided me with a good life now. Where they have regrets and consequences of sin, I have have fewer because I tried to do what was right then.

I share this to encourage you to hang in there with God and Christ.
