Life is Good in Christ

What follows is the outline I preached from this past Sunday morning.  We are currently preaching through a chronological reading of the Bible.  This was from last week’s reading.  I pray you learn from this outline.  If you are a preacher / teacher — feel free to adapt and use if you so desire.

Life is Good, Death is Evil

Chronological Series – 03.27.2011

Background

  • Israel is completing their 40 year wilderness wanderings.
  • The survivors are the children of the rebellious generation.
  • Moses begins his final Sermon.
  • Deut 30:15-20

Moses’ Outline:

Choose Life – Dt 30:19

  • Life is in God’s Word (commandments) – Dt 30:15-16
  • Disobedience brings peril – Dt 30:17-28
  • “If all else fails, read the instructions.”

Love God – Dt 30:20

  • This is the greatest command
  • Love puts the object of our love before self.

Listen to God’s Voice – Dt 30:20

  • Love listens
  • Learn to listen because God’s speaks from love.
  • Parents instruct their children – “don’t go near the road.”

Hold Fast to God – Dt 30:20

  • Do not let go of God.
  • Let go of everything else.
  • Trust God – Hold His hand.
  • Ps 73:24

“I hold to the hand that is steadfast and sure,

No other foundation is ever secure,

I look for the home that will ever endure;

I hold to the hand of my Lord.

I hold to the hand of my Savior and King,

‘Till safe in that city where angels now sing;

He leads me so gently where still waters flow,

And tells me of heaven, where I long to go.”

He is Your Life – Dt 30:20

  • Think of the past few years since leaving bondage to Egypt
  • God provides life!
  • Acts 17:28 – “In Him we live, and move, and have our being.”

Segue: Listen to these wise words:

  • “For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD,” Prv 8:35
  • “Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die.” Prv 11:19
  • “In the path of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there is no death.” Prv 12:28
  • “The fear of the LORD leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.” Prv 19:23
  • 1 Jn 5:11-13
  • “he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” 2 Cor 5:15

Choose Life in Christ

  • Life Free from guilt of past sin – Rom 4:7-8
  • Life Free from enslavement to sin – Rom 6:10-12
  • Life Free from fear of death – Heb 13:6
  • Life Free from concerns of world – Mt 6:31-32.
  • Life Eternal
    • Where God is – Rev 21:1-3; 22
    • Where there is nothing of this world – Rev 21:4
    • Where Jesus is light – Rev 21:23
  • Never Die! – Life Now and Eternal:
    • Jn 11:25-26, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
    • Jn 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
