Slave: Notes from John MacArthur

Here are a few of the notes I marked while reading Slave on a Kindle.

“When we call ourselves Christians, we proclaim to the world that everything about us, including our very self-identity, is found in Jesus Christ because we have denied ourselves in order to follow and obey Him.  He is bout our Savior and our Sovereign, and our lives center on pleasing Him.  To claim the title is to say with the apostle Paul, “To live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Kindle: Location 185).

“True Christianity is not about adding Jesus to my life.  Instead it is about devoting myself completely to Him – submitting wholly to His will and seeking to please Him above all else.” (Location 306).

“In ancient times, the slaves of the king were the most highly respected of all.  We belong to the King of kings – God himself.  There can be no higher honor than that.  And yet the Lord has bestowed and even greater distinction upon those who are His own.

Having delivered us from the destitution of sin, God not only receives us as His slaves – but He also welcomes us into His household and made us members of His very family.” (Location 2368).

I will share more tomorrow.

  1. Not to get off on a tangent, but don’t you just love being able to highlight things in Kindle books? Makes it so easy to go back later and remember key passages.

    Sounds like a good book!
